Balance in the industry and balance in the workplace. At Danoffice IT, we work tirelessly on our ESG goal to achieve a better gender balance both within our own organization and the industry as a whole.
Therefore, we have launched an initiative to put powerful women in the spotlight through a series of biographies through which these women will share their respective journeys to a career in the IT industry. Next up is After Sales Service Manager, Marie Therese Kold. With more than 11 years at Danoffice IT and a career that began far from the IT industry, she is a strong example of how communication, perseverance, and the courage to seize new opportunities can create a successful career path.
Daring to Say Yes
Some career paths are carefully planned. Others emerge because you have the courage to seize an opportunity when it presents itself.
For Marie, curiosity and the willingness to say yes have been defining themes throughout her career. She has never been afraid to take on responsibilities she had not necessarily tried before.
Early in her time at Danoffice IT, she was given the opportunity to take ownership of the After Sales area. It was not a field many were eager to take on. On the contrary, it lacked clear ownership, and the tasks were both complex and unpredictable. But that was exactly what sparked her interest.
That decision became a defining turning point in her career and marked the beginning of the professional field she remains passionate about today.
“It’s important that our customers feel they have someone by their side when things go off track,” she explains
MyRoadToIT
Together with the campaign in the IT industry called MyRoadToIT, our series of mini biographies is centered around 3 standard questions to which women in the Danish IT industry provide their unique responses. Here are the “three standards” for Marie:
– What do you do in the business these days and which difference do you feel you contribute to?
Marie serves as After Sales Service Manager, supporting customers from the moment products leave the warehouse until the warranty period expires. Her role covers everything from warranty claims and software-related challenges to transport damage and coordination across international partners.
In practice, she acts as the link between many different stakeholders. Customers, vendors, logistics partners, and internal teams often need to work closely together to find the right solution, making coordination and communication essential parts of her job.
The role is particularly important in relation to Danoffice IT’s UN contracts, where customers are often based in some of the world's most challenging environments. When something goes wrong, it is not just about technology or logistics. It is about ensuring that people can continue to do their jobs.
"It is important that our customers feel supported and guided when things don’t go according to plan," she explains.
– Why do you find it interesting to work in the IT industry and what motivates you in your work?
For Marie, IT is about much more than technology.
She finds her work with the UN and NGOs particularly meaningful because the solutions Danoffice IT delivers help support organizations working with people in need around the world.
“IT plays a crucial role in improving conditions in some of the world’s most vulnerable regions.”
She is also motivated by the variety that defines her day-to-day work. No two cases are the same, no two customers are alike, and many challenges require people with different skills and cultural backgrounds to work together to find solutions.
It is this combination of problem-solving, collaboration, and human connection that continues to make the job both engaging and rewarding year after year.
– How did you end up in the IT industry?
Marie’s path into the IT industry was never part of the plan.
She holds a degree in Design and Business with a specialization in sourcing and apparel production and originally envisioned a career in the fashion industry. After graduating, however, she applied for a position in Danoffice IT’s procurement department, setting her on a completely different journey.
“I genuinely thought I would be working in the fashion industry, but I soon realized that what I’m most passionate about is communication between people,” she says.
When she first joined Danoffice IT, she had neither technical experience nor an in-depth understanding of the industry. What she quickly discovered, however, was that curiosity, collaboration, and the courage to ask questions are far more important than having all the answers from the start.
Today, more than eleven years later, she looks back on that unexpected career change as one of the best decisions she has ever made.
An Approach Driven by Communication, Service, and Persistence
If Marie were to describe herself in three words, they would be:
- Persistent
- Communicative
- Service-minded
These qualities are reflected in everything she does, from her dialogue with customers and collaboration with colleagues to the complex cases that require both patience and determination.
She believes in honesty, clear communication, and meeting people on an equal footing, especially when things do not go according to plan.
A Career Built on Courage and Curiosity
Marie’s story shows that a career in IT does not necessarily begin with a technical degree or a carefully planned career path.
Sometimes, it starts with curiosity. With the courage to say yes to a challenge. And with a willingness to learn something new.
From the fashion industry to a key role at Danoffice IT, Marie has carved out her own path by taking ownership, embracing opportunities, and never stopping asking questions.
And her advice to others is simple:
Be curious, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to take on something you don’t know everything about yet.
