Who should have access to you company’s resources and critical data? Network security has been a hot topic for a long time, but many organizations are missing out on a very central component in their security strategies: The access to their Microsoft 365-environment.

A critical element in defining the right access rights for users and devices. Microsoft Conditional Access is a license, which most companies have – but only few are releasing its full potential. Our specialists are coming to the rescue with a solution that brings a new level of security.

Unexplored possibilities

When users are moving on the outside of your network, or when external users need to get in – then network security alone does not cut it. Maybe some users have even engaged in shadow IT? Either way, it takes some tough, digital doormen to secure that only the right users and devices are accessing your organization’s resources. “Conditional Access is Microsoft 365’s equivalent to a firewall. We can shut down and control how users get access to our environment”, says Niels Stilling Jakobsen, Senior Modern Workplace Consultant in Danoffice IT and continues: ”Most have it included in their licenses, but only few are using it in full.  Therefore, we have created a framework where we are efficiently helping you getting things fixed and set up. With great impact on security”.

Get the policies right

”With Microsoft 365 Conditional Access it is all about establishing the right policies for the users to get access. It might depend on the user’s location, the status of the device, or the risk-level of a login-attempt. This way we are securing that only authorized users get access to your 365”, says Niels Stilling Jakobsen.

However, the work on setting up the right policies, takes specialist competencies, Niels underlines. ”It is a quite specialized task which can result in expensive errors if not done correctly. We are therefore now offering our Danoffice IT Microsoft 365 Conditional Access Framework. A complete solution which will improve the security for Microsoft 365-environments and make them both up to date and future-proof.

Danoffice IT Microsoft 365 Conditional Access Framework

”We have created a baseline of policies for Microsoft 365 Conditional Access which we believe are relevant to all – that is our starting point. After thorough analysis we then assess the need for additional, tailor-fit policies, making sure we are all covered”.

Demands for the Modern Workplace

Microsoft 365 Conditional Access is also a central tool in the work on the organization’s Modern Workplace-strategy, adds Niels. “The main advantage here is that this product is all about the users. The whole modern work-cencept is that we need to be able to work everywhere, and today this is a demand from employees and approaching candidates, too”. In order to realize the concept of the Modern Workplace, securing your network is not enough.

“Today, we trust our networks, but from the very core of our environment, we need to define when users and devices are compliant. There is so much control included in Conditional Access which we can exploit and realize. We must be able to secure our data from a distance, and this feature is included in almost all 365-plans, so there are free points waiting to be collected here”.

Avoid expensive mistakes

“Everyone with a Microsoft-environment needs this”, Niels says. “It is the access to all 365. It is such a basic service. A basic license that is very secure”. He does, however, point out that making beginner’s mistakes is easy. “One should not just rush out to set up MFA-policies. This is a typical beginner’s mistake which often ends up with the risk of excluding people from the start. Everything that bothers the users ends up being expensive errors to the operations and for the business”.

This is also the reason that we in Danoffice IT have our phase three in our implementations of Conditional Access: “Here we are using Microsoft’s Insights & Reporting to make sure that the policies, we have set out, will not disturb the users’ workflows and shut them out. This way we get a full view of which users might be locked out, and we can fix the problems before they occur”, concludes Niels Stilling Jakobsen, Senior Modern Workplace Consultant i Danoffice IT.

Our Process:

Phase 1: Analysis & Planning Phase 2: Implementation Phase 3: Monitorization and activation

Start-up meeting where we go through your current Conditional Access setup.

We collect information on current policies.

We identify potential needs for additional, new policies.

We implement our Conditional Access Framework-policies and potential client specific policies, identified in phase 1.

All policies are implemented in “Report Only”-mode, making it possible to monitor the solution.

Two weeks after implementation we go through the policies with Insights & Reporting to identify potential issues.

Status meetings are being held every two weeks to secure operations.
