Balance in the industry and balance in the workplace. At Danoffice IT, we work tirelessly on our ESG goal to achieve a better gender balance both within our own organization and the industry as a whole.

Therefore, we have launched an initiative to put powerful women in the spotlight through a series of biographies through which these women will share their respective journeys to a career in the IT industry. The next in line is Vice President for Solution & Services, Jeanette Nielsen, who—through more than 25 years in the IT industry—has made change, courage, and curiosity her most important driving forces.”

Where others see operations, Jeanette sees opportunities

To understand Jeanette Nielsen, you need to know her core driving force: she is motivated by development. Not because something is necessarily wrong, but because she sees how things can be made even better. Jeanette thrives in environments where strategic ambitions must be translated into concrete action, and where a leader is needed to bring people together, create clarity, and drive change.

This is precisely why she felt naturally at home at Danoffice IT. Here, she saw the opportunity to put her experience into play in an organisation with high ambitions and a desire for continuous improvement.
“I enjoy working in places where we can take something strong and make it even stronger. I am motivated by elevating, developing, and moving things forward—both organisations and people,” Jeanette explains.

With responsibility for five business areas and a clear strategic framework where growth, optimisation, and employee development go hand in hand, Jeanette is the leader who makes a complex setup come together. Not by placing herself at the centre, but by assembling the right team—and making it perform.

25+ years in an industry that never stands still

Jeanette didn’t enter the IT world through a straight path or a fixed plan. Quite the opposite. She has shifted direction several times throughout her career—from sales to delivery, from operations to business, from hands-on execution to strategy—always consciously and with curiosity.
And that is exactly why she has stayed. The IT industry is in constant motion, and every time the world presents a new technology, a new challenge, or a new way of working, Jeanette feels motivated rather than intimidated.

“I have an appetite for knowledge. When something becomes too comfortable and stagnant, my work is done. The IT industry never stands still, and that is probably why I’m still here 25 years later.”

MyRoadToIT

Together with the campaign in the IT industry called MyRoadToIT, our series of mini biographies is centered around 3 standard questions to which women in the Danish IT industry provide their unique responses. Here are the “three standards” for Jeanette:

 – What do you do in the business these days and which difference do you feel you contribute to?

“My title is Vice President for Solution & Services. In this role, I work strategically to develop and optimise the business across five key areas.”
Her responsibilities range from growth strategies and improvement initiatives to employee development and organisational design.
Jeanette describes her role as a kind of team coach—someone who assembles the right team, brings people together, and ensures the organisation operates smoothly, whether she is in the room or not.
“People create results. My job is to build the team, set the framework, and make sure it works—even when the coach isn’t there,” Jeanette emphasises.

 – Why do you find it interesting to work in the IT industry and what motivates you in your work?

“I actually ended up in the IT industry by coincidence, but it turned out to become a passion.”
It wasn’t the technology itself that drew her in, but the pace, the constant change, and the complexity that perfectly matches the way she likes to work, Jeanette explains.
She is motivated by creating real transformation: improving, introducing new ways of working, and elevating both people and processes.
“I’m driven by changing things—by making them better than when I took over. The IT industry is fast, dynamic, and full of new topics—that’s gold for someone like me, who can’t stand still.”

– How did you end up in the IT industry?

Jeanette describes her career as a journey that has taken many turns—not according to a fixed plan, but according to opportunities. She has changed direction whenever something new could be learned or mastered. Over the years, she has moved through almost every part of the value chain: sales, delivery, operations, business, and strategy.
She has complemented her experience with an MBA and continues to challenge herself professionally—even today. “I don’t follow a five-year plan. I follow opportunities. I’m constantly building on my skills, because my mind never stands still.”

Creating Balance In An Unbalanced Industry

After many years in the IT industry, Jeanette has no doubt: there are still too few women—especially in the heavy technical roles. And although she doesn’t believe women lack the competencies, she is concerned that something gets lost between education and entering the workforce.
Her clear message to the industry is:
“We need to engage young people as early as possible. Demystify the industry. Bring them in as students, graduates, mentees. The earlier we show them the opportunities, the greater the chance they will stay.”
Jeanette is actively involved in developing the next generation. She serves as a mentor in the Danish IT Industry Association’s female leadership network and works to ensure that more women find their way into—and up through—the industry.

A Career Shaped By Courage, Curiosity, And The Will To Make a Difference

There is no single turning point in Jeanette’s career. There are many. And her approach is simple:

  • Listen to the opportunities
  • Take the leaps
  • Build on what you know
  • And move something forward every time you get the chance

“I don’t know where I’ll be in five years—and that’s entirely intentional. The world changes, the industry changes, and opportunities change. The most important thing is to stay curious and stay ambitious.”
Jeanette’s journey is a powerful example of how courage and change can be strengths—not uncertainties. And of how women in leadership can open doors, both for themselves and for others.
