Balance in the industry and balance in the workplace. At Danoffice IT, we work tirelessly on our ESG goal to achieve a better gender balance both within our own organization and the industry as a whole.
Therefore, we have launched an initiative to put powerful women in the spotlight through a series of biographies through which these women will share their respective journeys to a career in the IT industry. The next woman up is Business Relationship Manager, Mette Larsen, who is a specialist in her field and in building value through great relationships.

“I notice that the conversations and the confidence I share with my customers is something special. Most of my customers are men and I am met with a desire to talk and share. Sometimes this also includes private matters that are not related to IT. Whether this is because I am female, I cannot say, but if that is the case, that is fine by me. I am very protective of my customers. The relationships we have are founded on trust and are very important to me.”

Direct Dialogue
Being surrounded by men in the IT industry has never been a challenge for Mette, it has been quite the contrary. “I have never experienced any issues from being a woman in our industry. On the contrary, I have experienced an openness and directness from my male colleagues which enables us to speak with each other in an unfiltered manner. There is no hidden agenda, just direct conversations.”
Once again, it is clear that the relationships themselves are what Mette values. “What is important to me is that I am surrounded by great colleagues. Their gender is less important. My colleagues are predominantly men and for me, that has been very uncomplicated. It might even be an advantage because we can call it like it is, be direct, and get clear answers.
MyRoadToIT
Together with the campaign in the IT industry called MyRoadToIT - in Danish "MinVejTILIT", our series of mini biographies is centered around 3 standard questions to which women in the Danish IT industry provide their unique responses. Here are the “three standards” for Mette:
– What do you do in the business these days and which difference do you feel you contribute to?
”I am a part of our sales team in Hinnerup, and I have been in-house for 13 years. I often work on large complex solutions for private customers, however, sometimes, I am involved in our large tenders. That said, I have been focused on backup solutions since I started in the industry.”
”I feel that I add value to my customers. I am always forthright and transparent on the pricing. This is my approach because it makes it easier for everyone, and it protects my customers and our relationship. We always play by the same rules because I am the customer’s guy, or girl as it were.”
– Why do you find it interesting to work in the IT industry and what motivates you in your work?
”The industry is interesting in many ways. We are a small industry in that we know each other across the players. It is all a bit like a high school reunion. What is interesting is that something new is always around the corner. Everything is changing a lot, and your day is never the same two days in a row. The industry is constantly evolving, and it is important to stay focused. I also think that is why we all stick around. We are constantly subjected to outside factors which force us to be adaptable.”
”That said, my motivation is my customers. I am motivated by creating something new for them and contributing to their progress. That is what is at the core for me.”
– How did you end up in the IT industry?
”Through my network so it all mattered from day one. I was studying to become a market economist, and I took a short tour of the advertising industry, however, my mother’s friend was in the IT industry and that is what paved the way in for me. Her workplace specialized in backup and remote backup; however, she felt it was too hard for me to become a sales person in this industry so she actually told me no. However, her boss called me a few days later and offered me a job and then things were in motion.”
“I have worked a couple of different places. I have worked in marketing and sales. At one point, I was involved in developing a calculation model for settlement of backup data inventory along with a consulting firm. However, after having been on maternity leave twice, my task was to maintain our backup customers. This is where the relationships became critical, and they have been ever since.”

Long-term Success is About People
Mette Larsen’s story is a powerful reminder that long-term success in IT isn’t just about systems and solutions—it’s about people. Her nearly two decades of experience show how trust, empathy, and strong relationships can drive meaningful impact.
