The connection is direct and private—but can be isolated from the rest of the network,” Mathias adds.

The Users Are the Key

The users are the key to a company’s success—but they’re also the key to its security. “The advantage of Entra Private Access is that access is tied directly to the user’s identity. Each employee uses their personal credentials in Entra ID, and access is governed by individual policies. That’s significantly stronger than VPN, where the connection isn’t always closely linked to the user or device,” explains Mathias Baden Frederiksen.

He adds: “If a user is compromised or flagged as high-risk, the connection can be terminated immediately. That level of control simply isn’t possible with traditional VPN”

Mathias Baden Frederiksen highlights that it’s the synergy between Microsoft’s products that makes the real difference:

“It gets really interesting when Entra Private Access is combined with Conditional Access. First, the device goes through Conditional Access, then it’s validated via Entra. This adds an extra layer of security—and everything can be logged, giving full visibility,” he explains.

Many organizations already use Conditional Access, which makes it easy to test whether Entra Private Access fits into the existing environment.

“From an administrator’s perspective, it’s quick to get started, and you’ll be able to assess the functionality fairly fast. The solution supports Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android, so nearly all devices can be used,” he adds.

Time is a critical factor in modern IT operations, and this is another area where the solution makes a difference. Beyond security, there’s a clear efficiency gain: “If Entra Private Access can replace parts of an existing VPN, it frees up resources from routine and operational tasks.
